Soprano, Adrienne D. Neal, has delighted audiences through her appearances with the Aria Club of Greater Washington from 2002 to the 2010 season. She has also appeared as a guest artist with the Maryland Opera and has been presented in recital at the Charles Sumner School Museum. Ms. Neal’s s repertoire includes scenes from Don Giovanni (Zerlina), The Dialogues of the Carmelites (Sister Constance), La Rondine (Lisette), and The Old Maid and the Thief (Leticia). She is a former member of The Master Chorale of Washington (formerly The Paul Hill Chorale); she was a soloist at Luther Place Lutheran Church, Washington, DC and was formerly on the musical staff of Asbury United Methodist Church of Washington, DC. Ms. Neal currently serves as cantor for Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, DC and soloist for the Divine Science Church of the Healing Christ, Washington, DC.Ms. Neal has been a finalist in the Urban Philharmonic’s Paul Robeson Vocal Competition and has placed in the Leontyne Price Vocal Arts Competition (Century Club – Washington Chapter) and Gretchen M. Hood Vocal Competition. A graduate of the University of the District of Columbia, Ms. Neal has studied with Jane White, Dr. Kay Song, and Nelda Ormond. She is currently studying under the auspices of Shirley Taylor-Moore.
Described as having a “lovely, ornamented soprano” and praised for her “silken renderings of Mozart’s legato arias,” Bharati Soman has performed leading roles with companies throughout Northern California. Repertoire includes the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro) with Cinnabar Theater, Mimì (La Bohème), and the title roles in Madame Butterfly and Semele with Pocket Opera, Hanna Glawari (The Merry Widow) with Livermore Valley Opera, Diana in (Emperor Norton) with California Chamber Opera, and Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with Sacramento Opera. Other repertoire includes Léïla (Les pêcheurs de perles), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Mabel (The Pirates of Penzance), and Yum-Yum (The Mikado).
Also active as a concert soloist, Bharati has performed works with Choralis, the UC Davis Symphony, Kensington Symphony Orchestra, Camellia Symphony Orchestra, and given recitals for the NVCC Lyceum Series and Oakland Lyric Opera. In addition to performing, Bharati was on the voice faculty at UC Davis for three years, and currently maintains a private studio in Falls Church, VA. She holds a Bachelor of Music from James Madison University, and a Master of Music and Performer Diploma from Indiana University.
Soprano Julia Turnbull has been seen locally in the roles of Najade (Ariadne auf Naxos) and La Suora Infermiera (Suor Angelica) with The Singers’ Theater of Washington. Other credits include Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) with Operation: Opera, Annina (La Traviata) with Asheville Lyric Opera and Mimì (La Bohème) with Capitol Opera Richmond, Arminda (Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera) with Opera Theater Pittsburgh, Second Lady(The Magic Flute).
As the Soprano Young Artist for two consecutive summers at the Staunton Music Festival, Julia Turnbull covered the roles of Iris in Handel’s Semele and Galatea in Acis and Galatea.
Ms. Turnbull holds a Bachelor of Music from James Madison University and a Master of Music from Converse College.
Juliana Marin is a voice teacher and arts administrator in the Baltimore area. She graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance and The Peabody Conservatory with a Master of Music in vocal performance. In addition to performing with Sopranessence, she sings with the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and looks forward to being a part of their rich history.
Krystal Waters is a graduate of the Petrie School of Music where she received her Master’s degree in vocal performance studying with Mrs. Rebecca Turner. While at the Petrie School of Music, she performed Ms. Todd from Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief on the main stage as well as Ortrud from Wagner’s Lohengrin, Mrs. Sedley from Britten’s Peter Grimes, and Jo from Adamo’s Little Women in Opera Scenes performances. She received her Bachelor of Music: Vocal Performance from Valparaiso University. She was a member of the Chicago Choral Artists and is a soloist on their album: Peace & Reconciliation: Music of War, Grief, and Peace. She currently resides outside of DC and performs with Opera on Tap – DC Metro and Sopranessence.
Louisa Waycott is a mezzo-soprano from Sun Valley, Idaho. Ms. Waycott has performed Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, the Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and the title role in Blitzstein’s Regina, and the Shepherd in L’enfant et les sortileges w with The Maryland Opera Studio. Other roles include Madame de la Haltière with Miami Summer Music Festival in Cendrillon, Lady Saphir in Patience with Utopia Opera, La Zia in Madama Butterfly with Amore Opera, and covers of Meg (Falstaff – Utopia Opera) and Martha (Iolanta – New Opera NYC).
Louisa studied with Opera in the Ozarks, where she performed Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte, The International Lyric Academy, The American Institute of Musical Studies, The Neil Semer Vocal Institute, and Songfest. She graduated from The University of Mississippi where she performed Tessa in The Gondoliers, Mercedes in Carmen, Estrella in La Perichole, and La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi. She is a recent graduate of The Maryland Opera Studio with her Master of Music degree.
In addition to performing with Sopranessence, Louisa is a member of the chorus at Washington National Opera.
Nicole Lamm, soprano, has performed with companies and summer festivals such as Opera Roanoke, Maryland Opera Society, New York Opera Society, Bay Area Summer Opera Theatre Institute, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Summer Opera Theatre, and La Fabbrica. Nicole has performed operas and recitals throughout US as well as internationally including France, Italy, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Her operatic repertoire includes Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Mimì (La Bohème) Laurie (The Tender Land), Monica (The Medium), and Rosasharn (The Grapes of Wrath Suite). As an active singer in the DC metropolitan area, Nicole enjoys singing concerts and recitals both as a soloist and as a member of Sopranessence.
Nicole also has extensive teaching experience and is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She currently maintains a private voice studio in Alexandria, VA. Nicole received her Masters of Music degree in Vocal Performance at Catholic University of America and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at Sweet Briar College.
Award-winning pianist Ruth Locker made her debut with the Pittsburgh Symphony at age 13. The Pittsburgh Concert Society, Carnegie Awards, Passamaneck Award, Garrigues Award, and Obenshain Award are but few of the honors she has received. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University, Ruth began a career of diverse performances including solo recitals, concertos, and chamber music. As a collaborative pianist, Ruth continues working frequently with both vocalists and instrumentalists.
Ms. Locker’s multifaceted career remains quite active. Most recently, she has concertized in Boston, Washington State, and Oregon. She has been fortunate to have worked regularly in the voice studios of Todd Duncan and George Gibson, and as a frequent performer with The Potomac Valley Opera Company. As a much sought after free-lance pianist and teacher, Ruth is honored to work with all of the people who want to collaborate with her.
